The rush job is entirely to make parts of the agenda a fait accompli that are hard to undo when the other side takes power in a couple years, hoping that the effort to unfuck it is never spent b/c of other priorities 2/2 @hudsonrivercroc.bsky.social
I don't think they're doing this as a rush job in that sense. I think they're still ratcheting up the absurdity and/or severity of what they're doing to see if they can get away with it, with Trump '28 as an ideal end point. I think they're rushing because there's limited time to get there.
Like I fully believe many of them WANT to make that kind of craven power play for permanent control, but they want to know they'll be able to get away with it before they actually take that step.
That argument works for Trump, Kegseth, etc. IMO it doesn't work for Miller, Vought, and most of the Project 2025 crowd They're evil, not stupid bsky.app/profile/post...

States determine what voting locations exist. The federal government has zero role in it. There are not enough physical bodies employed by ICE + CBP + the military to have "a few people at each location" The city of Charlotte NC alone would need an entire battalion bsky.app/profile/dooo...

People are far more likely to ignore – or assault – randos attempting intimidation at a polling place than they are the military The idea there's going to be mass MAGA militias at blue polling locations is just silly bsky.app/profile/dooo...
I have had otherwise-normal white people in rural areas around where I live insist to me that gun violence is so bad in Durham (my city) that 3-5 people are shot every day There aren't enough of them willing to go into town to be easy targets at polling places
@gregdoucette.bsky.social Also, Trump is probably the only American ignorant of the constitutional fact that in the US, the states run the elections under congressional legislation. They, and nobody else. Citizens know it, state officials know it, the military and national guardsmen have sworn […]
I hope you're right. At the last federal election in Canada, I volunteered to be a polling place scrutineer for one of the candidates. Basically watching to make sure the rules were followed. Volunteers from the other parties were there too. If people were paid, there would be more signing up.
Except that they don't need to be at every blue polling location? Wouldn't a few key locations in swing states do the trick?
Potentially even 10
And if we ever get into that extremely unpleasant situation, FP-45 Liberator logic applies (that a cheap, one-shot limited-life gun is enough to let you upgrade from your occupier's stores). Which boy howdy I hope we don't get there. It's bad enough as it is.
Something something orange juice concentrate & gas
I truly hope you are right.
States also determine if they accept mail-in ballots. I hope that the fed gov doesn't mess with any of that. He could intimidate red states into complying. As for voting day, Musk or some other oligarch could advertise $1K for MAGAts to stand outside voting areas. He's bribed for votes before.
Using local LEO would help, but still, not nearly enough. (and not all would go along, either)
I think the worry would be the concentration of Army/NG/CBP/ICE in certain states to swing important delegations in the R direction through intimidation; don't know how successful it would be, but it's clearly a better plan than just spreading all the guys w guns out
There is not nearly enugh of any of them to make that a workable plan, and remember there is no telling what the reaction from the military when they pull what is essentially a coup
I hope you're right, but in the end most soldiers obey orders without a strong incentive not to; I'm not sure how pro- or anti-Trump the officer corps is, but a lot of things will likely hinge on that
There is no way for Trump to replace even a majority of even the top generals/admirals to garanti a significant number of the military won't follow illegal orders, No this would have to be a civilian only "coup" wither by something like Ice or "militais"
DC will be filled with National Guard n other military + fed n state law-enforcement. All swore an oath to defend the Constitution. A significant % will be Maga. Like J6, they may use disinfo, force n chaos in attempt to block power transfer. What will it take to keep the republic?
They are culling the non loyalists as quickly as they can, same as all other government agencies.
We’ll have zampolit soon
Honestly, thats kind of alarmingly low.
I can’t figure out where to start a new question… but can Supreme Court “shadow docket” rulings be cited for precedent later? If not, could this be why they are using it so often so they can reverse course for Democrats?
They don't see themselves as evil. I think that Miller, Voight, etc, think they can be a part of a popular movement. They truly believe in their bullcrap. I think they expect that they will be popular by the election. If not, they will hold on thinking they just need "a few more months".
Vought, absolutely. Miller strikes me as a classic case of someone who decided he knew everything there is to know in middle school and never even attempted to disabuse himself of that notion.
The 2025 guys may not be stupid, but their ideas are so abhorrent that they need to find stupid people like Trump to hide behind.
And a base primed to believe that any action taken against them is based on animus rather than they are evil lawbreaking fscks. At some point it would be nice if people started to accept that reality doesn't care about feelings or vague hazy wishful memories.
I think you overestimate their intelligence and underestimate their aggression and ambition spiraling with each success.
Okay but what if you're going for permanent autocracy and you're really, really stupid?
I just don't think you can discount the fact that not a one of them has ever cracked a serious history book or considered that they might know less than the complete sum of all human knowledge plus a few yet-unrealized universal truths.
