You'll undoubtedly be shocked (shocked!) that the "but equal" part was missing, of course So Sweatt v Painter (SCOTUS) happened in Texas in 1950 Then McKissick v Carmichael (4th Circ) happened in NC in 1951 Then Brown v Board happened in 1954 McKissick opinion: law.justia.com/cases/federa...

The Fourth Circuit's opinion in McKissick details the disparate treatment of the NCCU School of Law compared to its whites-only counterpart at UNC Chapel Hill Fewer faculty, less experienced. Fewer courses. The Law Library furnished with outdated books handed down from the whites-only school.

The end result was that the State of North Carolina was required to admit black students to its whites-only law school, years before SCOTUS's Brown v Board of Education ruling

Over the decades since, Legislature-decreed disparities continued to exist, but things improved in fits and starts into the 2000s, when per-student funding was equalized through the work of alumni-legislators like Mickey Michaux

But the thing to keep in mind – the thing that can't really be avoided, since it's the entire reason the law school exists – is that NCCU School of Law is a historically black institution

That served the law school well in getting private funding from companies like Intel, whose workforces are overwhelmingly white But the thought of racial minorities getting an education makes MAGAland very angry

So soon after Trump took over, the US Department of Education decreed that NCCU was required to remove all references from its website indicating it was an HBCU or had a legacy of serving students of all races You won't find anything now, except via pics of the students+alumni: law.nccu.edu

Now that Intel is in hock to the Trumpist federal government, eliminating its commitments to help fund efforts to bring non-whites into the tech sector had to go too It's just racism, all the way down

Trump needed to eat into voting margins with black voters to get re-elected. Now that he's back in office, he doesn't need them – and is betting a number of the folks who crossed over will keep supporting him anyway bsky.app/profile/cape...

Intel at least has the excuse that they’re doing real badly rn and can’t afford to piss off the govt when they want govt support

WE TRIED TO WARN YOU @cogenteur.bsky.social

Black voters who "crossed over" for Trump now have choices to make. They can admit error (not something most ppl are good at). Or they can dig in and construct impenetrable fortresses of auxiliary rationale (something most ppl are mighty good at). Hispanics likewise.
