It's really hard at this point to measure what effect Trump's law enforcement surge is having in D.C. It essentially added 15% to police staffing; you wouldn't expect huge, immediate effects. Crime is definitely down from last year. But it was before August, too. Here's the trend in gun assaults.

As it is driving out tourists and visitors and suppressing economic activity, a corresponding drop in crime would be expected.

So, I don't doubt crime would go down in the areas with a crap ton of extra cops and soldiers dumped into it. But you engaged in all that extra cost for what marginal benefit in crime reduction? And what impact did it have on the commercial operations of the area?

Surpisingly, the weather is much cooler than usual during late August. Crime escalates in most cities, including DC, when the temps gets warmer. We, thankfully, are in the midst of a cooling trend. Dumb luck.
