The US (Ununited States) wants us to spend more on Defence - with them. It has everything to do with supporting the defence suppliers over there. Without defence spending the US economy shrinks significantly. They are warmongers for economic benefit.

Why should spending relate to a country’s GDP? Fair enough for European countries with similar population I guess. Surely it should just relate to your risk and size of the border you need to protect. Maybe Australia should be spending a lot less or a lot more, but GDP seems dumb.
