It wasn't a coup staged by the CIA, or any other US agencies. It was a grass roots protest against russian corruption. Ukrainians wanted to join the EU to open their markets and country to Europe and vice-versa.
Yanukovich fled Kyiv to Moscow. The Ukrainian Rada had no choice but to remove him as President and hold new elections. Shortly after he fled, on Feb 24, 2014 russian SPETZNAZ rose up in Crimea and took the region for Moscow.
