From what I've been hearing/reading, we have "private equity" groups to thank for much of this. This includes previously independent dentists, medical practices such as anesthesiology groups and retail companies (Red Lobster and Joann Fabrics among others).

Yeah, I know it's the fault of private equity. They've destroyed the health care system so they've moved on to pets. Nobody should be using a PE vet if a private practice is available. Last time we took our (compliant) Bichons to the vet they charged us $50 to clip their nails. Not going back there.
