2 trombones in the same house? I was a drummer. My parents loved that when it was just a rubber practice pad. But Ben with a whole drum kit, still better than my sisters violin. Until you get good at the violin ( which apparently takes forever) it is torture for those around you.

Or the image is a mirror image. And we can tell which it is. How can you tell that they're assembled the right way around?

The bell part should be over the left shoulder, the slide held by the right hand. I couldn't make out any text to check if the image had been flipped. And yes, I should get out more.

A lot of selfie cameras flip the image. My wild arse guess is that it's so we look like we do in the mirror, and that's more familiar to the photo taker

FWIW the lever on a water key is oriented on the right hand of the slide to make it accessible to the right hand when the trombone is properly assembled. This one shows the boy's water key lever being on the LHS. You can assemble a trombone leftie, but it always puts the lever on the wrong side

There's not necessarily logic to L/R-handedness on brass instruments: the valves on trumpets are pressed by the RH, but on a French Horn by the LH: the historical reason for that is that it used to be the RH used to do all the clever stuff when inserted in the bell, and the LH was just to hold it.

Actually, looking again, I think the writing in the boy's T-shirt is the right way round, and I *think* that both water keys are on the correct (right) side. I think we need to get the FBI to do a proper forensic investigation.

My son plays trombone as well and our German Shepherd used to run outside when he played. She would howl and howl. 😂

Many years ago, when the world was young, I used to play the tenor horn (when I say play, I mean I created noise but it wasn't necessarily musical). My dog (a beagle) used to leave the room...& he did like music. He used to howl along when my dad played the piano.
