You have been right if you believed this with regard to people who voted for him the first time around. But not this time. Those who voted for him this time are all people who don’t mind having others treated cruelly.

I don't think that aspect changed between 2016 and 2024. Sure a small fraction of the population got more comfortable with the cruelty. But I don't think it is the majority of his base. Not to mention all the Latinos who voted for him.
