The problem is, the US has 147 million housing units. Another 3 million increases the supply by 2%. It might have had an appreciable effect if the units were located in the most expensive housing markets. But it only nibbled at the problem.
Now, you have to remember that Trump's plan for housing affordability was "drill baby drill" and "you might get a deported immigrant's apartment." A very Trump mix of ignorance and cruelty. So don't get me wrong, I think "she's not Trump" was actually a fantastic selling point.
I feel like it's both. Sure, you can disagree with aspects of her policy proposals, but they were mostly practical incremental improvements of some sort. ....also she's not Trump. But in a race between 'her good ideas are not radical enough', and 'resegregate America', it's not a hard choice.
Unfortunately, too many voters didn't see that as the choice. The low-informationness of it all confounds me, but a segment of voters still saw him as the business genius he played on The Apprentice. And the mainstream media sanewashed his confused ramblings.
Absolutely, I don't disagree with any of that.
