There used to be a term about 20 years ago to describe the hard right wing folks who thought waving US flag would solve the US's problems, to the point the flag was their only personailty. It was very close sounding to a very specific slur used against a set of folks they really didn't like.

Went into Preston earlier, some racist fuckwits have hung flags on the bridges and painted red crosses on traffic signs.🙄. Couldn’t be arsed to go to the effort of ripping them down.
It's really infuriating, I know Preston well and it has always been a multicultural city with a couple of Caribbean festivals every year.

The Guardian had an article about this last week where they went into the Facebook groups where people are coordinating this, and a lot of these people are apparently buying all their England flags from Temu. Which is funny to me.
I read a story last week that someone had been going round removing the flags from lamp posts, then putting them on Facebook marketplace selling their own flags back to them . Don't know how true that was but love the idea of it .
