Lacking a better term, I want to call it "Quazi Religiosity." They put faith in their country, or party! They maintain belief in the face of contrary evidence! Their side always makes things better, when it's actually different. I felt as scared under Biden, as Trump, surrounded by cult members!

You are right, it's a CULT. But - I could understand a cult of a king. I don't get it today. I thought we as a species were developing critical thinking as we matured. Where is it??? The critical thinking. Never mind critical - some just refuse to THINK.

Some seem wired with the social need to worship. It doesn't matter how smart, like pro-Zio Atheists. Many evolved past religion, but substituted with the coming of a new God, Gavin Newsom, who damaged California. Don't say anything evil about Trump, around Trumpers! I wonder if it's from stress.

People losing hope resort to magical thinking, as an emotional coping mechanism. It's a scramble to a belief system, when reality is too ugly to face! Socially, if they had already invested in it, then the clinging is that much tighter. It's OK because Jesus is coming, while conforming to evil!
