Absolutely Blue states need to form their own public health initiatives that circumvent the CDC. But governors will need public support, & that requires educating the public about why this is necessary AND that even with these measures we will still be facing a potential public health catastrophe.
There are no magic solutions given that borders between states are porous so infectious diseases can still easily spread. We also are incredibly vulnerable to bioterrorism now, and there are limits to what states can do with limited funding/resources, which is why #CorporateFairShare is vital.
I truly believe that if people understood just how much our health (and that of our loved ones) have been compromised by Trump & Kennedy, more people would take to the streets & flood their elected officials offices with calls & visits. Education is key to empowering this resistance.
Public health folks tend to be apolitical because they understand how dangerous politicizing public health is. But we need to encourage them to start speaking out locally, and progressive activists should be organizing community events focused on educating the public about how bad things are.
