Ok, just realised the Israeli govt moved their blood bonds themselves, our govt did nothing...but I'm still proud because without all our voices the Israeli govt would have kept on using us and making us complicit in the genocide.

Our government voted to continue to allow the sale of #IsraeliBondsForGenocide. Ignore their words they are meaningless. Their lack of actions to stop a genocide, on the other hand, speak volumes. Our government is complicit.

I assumed you meant that. They didn't vote 'fo'r them, they defeated that vote on procedural grounds that the executive or legislative has no power to compel the CBI to do anything. As we see in MAGA land, government interference with the central bank is never good

Sorry you are wrong. Ireland has a legal responsibility to prevent genocide. These are war Israeli bonds. Israel is committing genocide.

I'm on your team here. But the government cannot tell the CBI what to do. If they felt there was no legal reason they could refuse to administer the bonds then they are the ones who we should pressure. They clearly nudged them out, but they need to explain how this situation occurred.

They can. Especially when it makes the state complicit in genocide. Which it did. "Through the actions of the Central Bank, the Irish State is accordingly in knowing and wilful violation of its international legal obligations." www.irishlegal.com/articles/leg...

Who are these academics? What international law? I actually agree with you here. But it isn't as simple, especially in the absence of sanctions, to decline this service as some are claiming.

The Irish government has already stated that Israel is committing genocide. They, therefore, have a legal responsibility to prevent it. opiniojuris.org/2024/03/30/t...).
