A series I tried to get into but other things took priority. I liked what I played a lot and I feel the hate is forced. The easiest thing to do is just not care and focus on what you do love, but some people just get off on being “that person” to shit on other people’s enjoyment.

Big time! I know no game is for everyone, so there's people who are gonna dislike it. But Horizon is incredible to me. Platted Zero Dawn twice and planning my 2nd plat of Forbidden West this year. Ripping giant robots apart and taking in the views fill me up with the good feels!

I enjoyed the games. My biggest problem with Aloy in the first game is how she is socially perceptive despite being shunned her whole life. I liked that they fixed that in the sequel in some ways.

I didn't care for it all that much and I gave it a fair shake. It's a good looking game and the combat has some high points but the world itself is kind of forgettable as are the characters and the writing. I'm hoping at least the latter part can be fixed with the rumored film coming up.

Because Nintendo/Zelda fans saw it as a competitor to BOTW back when it came out. then when FW came out FromSoft fans saw it as an ER competitor (especially after some GG and UBI devs on their personal twitter spoke about ER's UI/UX not being great). From fans saw this as them being "salty"

Speaking truth. In podcasts with Ashly and the team at Guerrilla you can see all the love, nuance and care that goes into Aloy, the way she interacts with the world and everything. It is sad reactionaries are taking any and all female led media and dunking on it. Horizon is amazing.

It was my favorite new IP last generation. Ashley Birch brings a great wit to Aloy, with gameplay and a world to match. So much of the hate is wrapped in console wars, bad politics, and pile on-ism it is hard to take it seriously. The series greatest sin is bad timing that is almost pathological

I also loved Ghosts(Film nerd me did a playthrough in Kurosawa mode) but something about Aloys snark, and the epic hunts(Robot dinosaurs!!) that edged Horizon over the top for me. The story also really worked for me. I still mourn Varl.

Only ever played the prologue of Zero Dawn to see how it was. I enjoyed it and from everything I’ve seen in trailers of it and FW look fun and solid (been saving the rest for the mythical “when I have more time and the mood is right” moment. Hopefully this year if I clear more backlog)

I played Enslaved Odyssey to the West this year. It was my very first venture into that "cinematic adventure" style of game. The devs said they could probably never make a sequel now since it'd probably be too similar to Horizon. So I guess I'll finally dive into Horizon!!

Some of the best bow mechanics of all time. An incredibly impressive engine that Kojima himself utilized for DS. A unique and exciting story setting with a great art style. I love Aloy as a character too but I think I preferred her arc in Zero Dawn more than FW. (Only played abt 20 hrs of FW tho)

I'm not the biggest fan, but blame the landscape of when it came out. I need to revisit. Just got blasted by some all timers' priority wise. Playing anything after Yakuza 0, Breath of the Wild, and Persona 5 back to back to back was a recipe for mild disappointment.
