I really dislike the idea of indies and AA games being inherently lesser than big budget games. A game's value does not stem from how many people worked on it but how it made you feel.

Nowadays, some of my all time fave games are indie game Lower budget sure but bigger heart hands down
Couldn't have said it better.
Think some of the best and most creative games have come out the indie space.
Agree 100%. You have my sword, my bow, and MY AXE!
Very true, glad there are streamers who can really showcase a variety of games so that good games get their chance to shine.
Games like OMORI and Undertale have had a much more profound impact on me than most other games I've played recently
I mean the most important video games ever made small teams some less than 20 people
I consider them generally superior because love and care goes into them in a way that simply isn't possible with AAA games
Gatekeeping is gatekeeping is gatekeeping.
There is NO WAY this game is lesser than many AAA games, I will not STAND for the slander
I've personally found more value (don't necessarily like thinking about it like that) from indies and AA because of the passion put into them. While more and more (not all) AAA games are starting to feel corporate and soulless.
Some of the best games in most genres are indie games. Hell, UTDR and Disco Elysium are indies and take a look at those games. Obviously bigger budgets can help, but plenty games can and have made up the difference in money and team size with enough dedication and skill
I've had more indie and AA games make me cry and want to replay them more than AAA games. Budget doesn't always mean substance.
100% Agreed! I love Good AAA Stuff like Black Myth Wukong, Spider-Man 2 & Donkey Kong Bananza, but there's Plenty of Indie, AA & even Licensed Games worth trying like Pizza Tower, Dodgeball Academia, Frogun, Spark 3, Tinykin, Penny's Big Breakaway, The Plucky Squire, etc. bsky.app/profile/lond...
In my experience as an indie dev, a lot of people who claim to hold that opinion actually just want to pay unsustainably low amounts for indies while simultaneously expecting higher and higher production values from us. "Hey, you better have VA but also cost under $20."
I judge them on different scales nowadays mostly because indie games are just better
Who says that? Everyone has been publicly hating "triple a" and extolling indie games for a decade now.
"Everyone"? You'll need to be more specific as the top played games are still all AAA. My post was in response to folks criticizing Lost Soul Aside for being AA. www.circana.com/post/top-10-...
What? You’ve been on the same internet, you’ve seen the countless articles, videos and threads all saying muh evil triple A. Don’t be intentionally dense. Obviously highest raw numbers will be Fortnite and cowwadoody but you know that’s not what I was talking about.
I doubt that's the case nowadays, cause AAA has gotten so messy. Meanwhile indie and AA has been very passionate and unique.
Agreed tho some people's mindset is still like that
Most of us cheered when Expedition 33 was so good because those developers left the bloated monolith of a company and followed their dreams .. and made a game that excelled!
Yeah it was great to see a group of relatively younger developers succeed like they did
I feel the opposite is also true. Like I've seen people say they enjoy a Sony/Nintendo/Xbox game and get called capitalist slop eaters or told to play a real game like whatever indie is relevant. Games can be great or garbage no matter the budget/scope/scale/publisher/etc
It's all about the final feeling: does it feel cool and why? That's a hard question but for me the only value you see at launch.
Yeah not easy to answer but ultimately what we should look for
