Also worth noting a fairly significant chunk of US agriculture is not necessary to feed Americans, but is rather 1. subsidized production to support economics for non-value added uses (i.e., corn for ethanol) or 2. supporting lifestyle preferences (e.g., beef)
And a lot of rural people aren't even farmers, and many who are do it just as a supplement to another job and because its tradition. We dont need this many people on the land. Mechanization hollowed out the old agricultural communities. Time to let them die.
