They're not self-imposed 😂😂😂 They were requirements made by Sam Zell. Any bidder that refused those terms was turned down. If Ricketts didnt buy the team, whoever did would've had the exact same terms.

If Joe Schmo bought the Cubs, he'd have been saddled with the exact same debt plan and a league requirement to carry ~$42 million in operating revenue at all times for the next decade plus. Teams usually carry < $20mil. The average operating revenue for MLB teams in 2020 was NEGATIVE $60 million.
