There's also a train of thought that says the uncanny valley was how our ancient ancestors could tell friendly hominids from one that would attack them, because they look different. You -could- argue (devil's advocate) that racism is a flawed extension of that.

I subscribe to the train of thought that Uncanny Valley is based on disease or severe mutation. Our ancestors mated too readily with our cousins for me to think different.

I mean, there were how many different hominid species running around back then? Something looking -off- at a distance and avoiding it often meant the difference between living another week and spending your final moments watching a Denisovan bite your mate's face off.

Yeah, I'm not advocating for it here. It's idiotic and ignores mankind's capacity for rational thought. We thought the way we did for obvious survival reasons. We don't deal with those factors anymore; therefore, the phenomenon no longer serves a purpose.
