Auschwitz was a conglomeration of dozens of slave labor, concentration & extermination camps. Most of the 1.1 million people murdered at Auschwitz—more than 900,00 Jews—were killed at Auschwitz 2-Birkenau, which was built months *after* Hitler began planning the implementation of the Holocaust.

That’s correct. In 1940/41 it was created as a concentration camp mostly for Poles as the prisons were overflowing. In 1942 the Nazis began a whole new era of terror.

Except the whole new era of terror began in 1941. You’re thinking of Wannsee in January 1942, which is when the Nazis streamlined and found ways to expedite the mass killing of Jews, known as the Holocaust of Bullets. it had begun the year before. It had already used mobile gas chambers, as well.…1/

…Transporting Jews to mass killing centers became the Nazis’ choice. Auschwitz 2-Birkenau was already operating as a death camp. The other 4 main death camps were opened within months of Wannsee. Majdanek was a storage facility for goods looted from Jews and became a death camp then, as well.
