Tripping the Colour is as much about the regiment as it is about the king/queen. Far less of a vanity project.

It’s an oddly understated event despite being wildly ostentatious. I think it shows the military & the head of state off with far more dignity.

My Dad attended (as a spectator) as someone in his group was playing the big silver drums on a horse. That was in the 50s. National Service - he’s still talking about it.
