google docs inserts a sparkle icon, that i’ve only ever clicked by accident, every time i select text. being force fed it is definitely an experience i have.

The one that drives me the most crazy is Adobe telling me my documents are very complicated and it can help me understand them. (It can’t.) I can tell it “no”, but it still asks every time. So even in cases where AI isn’t being truly forced on me, I’m forced to interact with the question.

This kind of adversarial UX pretending to be “helpful” is certainly part of the “forced on us” perception. But it’s also, genuinely, forced on me, since I teach, and thus can’t avoid having to deal with AI slop.

I don’t know about Google stuff but I know that enterprise Microsoft stuff definitely has policies for Copilot enablement. I see it on some pieces of software but not others. I suspect that the domain admins have to enable it (and they hope to charge for it in the future).

another thing that drives me nuts: they’ve added a 🆕 option for hallucinating images, in the insert menu; it’s placed *above* the option for uploading an image. in my BUSINESS DOCUMENTS surely i am uploading screenshots or meaningful diagrams more often than a bullshit illustration, no?

right, if anything LLMs should be doing the opposite here: "it looks like you've added some stupid bullshit to your document. how about adding something of substance instead?"

i can forgive it in the slides app but in the docs oy vey. david will hate the faux environmental angle but there was a whole paper on how everyone is (my interpretation) juicing engagement via dark ux patterns: computingwithinlimits.org/2025/papers/...
