I was wondering if housing them in private hotels and such constituted a violation of the 3rd? Like a GM feels they *can't* refuse a request from the Federal gov't for fear of reprisal. Are they also being paid full rate or is there a demand for discounts, etc?
The US government...paying a discounted rate?? If a hotel is being paid the full rate it would be a very steep uphill battle to prove that the hotelier was coerced.
I am far more concerned with the militarization and the violence that comes with federal agents then I am the rate the federal government pays for a hotel.

Not sure the point you are trying to make. The protest in question failed. The people were violently oppressed. We don't know the number of people who were killed when the military rolled in as the Chinese government suppresses this information.
