You'll notice I specifically said if you live to 65, which kept my statement accurate. I intentionally excluded accidents and workplace deaths because my point was and still is that the system was intentionally created so that people could retire at 65 and enjoy a few years of not working.
A few years. Not 20. Less than 5 typically. If you live to 95 mooching for 30 years is a huge problem, not intended function.

Ok, what am I making up? 1930 numbers: Average lifespan after 65=78. 78-65=13. Average of 13 years of retirement. The 2022 actuarial table for average life expectancy after age 67=16.11. Average of 16.11 years of retirement.
