We wouldn’t have to tolerate this if Blue States secede just like Red States threaten to do when Dems are in charge! Blue States support Red States financially! Republicans would panic if Blue States refuse to send taxes to the regime! It’s the kind of fight we need & deserve from Democrats!!!!
Part of me agrees but let’s not forget that there are a ton of Dems/libs in red states who we’d be leaving behind. And a ton of maga freaks in blue states. And before anyone says they should all move, look up India partition in 1947. Not pretty. I think we’re stuck with each other.
India’s partition was imposed on it by a colonial power. That’s a bit different than the present situation.
Hindus were forcibly moved to India and Muslims to Pakistan. About 1 million died. If we have secession and people are forced to move, there will be mass chaos and death. There would also be a massive economic collapse with infrastructure shut down/destroyed, healthcare disrupted, etc.
I’m aware of the cost of the Partition of India. There are so many instances of forced relocation to pick from, though, I’m confused why you’re doubling down on one whose colonial origin makes it a poor comparison for the US model. But also? Secession does not have to mean forced relocation.
And fascist regimes (the alternative in the US) generally end up killing millions too. All the options suck. We still have to pick.
Most discussions I’ve read about secession has included relocation, that’s why I used the India comparison. I can’t imagine red states allowing ‘libs’ to remain. Once the killings start, it’s extremely hard to stop.
That last sentence is true whether the killing happen by war or by government oppression, and I think that’s easy to forget.
