Brexit is a 'complete disaster' and a second referendum should be held to reverse it say vast majority of Daily Mirror readers www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...

One lesson from Brexit is not to make major changes on the back of a referendum!

Go for it. Hmmm, by the by, when are the far-right problems inside the EU going to get solved? The veto prevents ejection and reform. Its been a long time of Orban and the problem grows. Meloni liked some Mussolini. NR, AfD, Fico etc. etc. We have the Quisling's of Reform but that bubble will burst.

As things stand Labour will have none of it. The Lib Dems are the only party seeking reintegration with the EU so that’s where my vote goes next time.

Definitely needs a bit (a lot) of tweaking on the social justice front, but then, maybe.

I hope for your sakes it happens. I can't imagine not being European. It's so much a part of me & my life to date. Glad to be Irish.

I’ve been European my whole adult life. Still living in the EU in France. Getting on now but it’s still worth the fight to get back although I probably won’t see it.

Same. While I am dual (UK/Irish) I live in Wales. Rejoining won't change much for me but it will change the environment around me, and for the better.

Joining probably takes longer than two government terms. Extremely hard to deliver. Any succeeding government can decide to end the process of joining that was started by a Lib Dem government.

Can we trust another referendum without media controls and blocks on foreign funding? The RW fascists are emboldened by Trump and would delight in ‘fixing’ another referendum

No. I’d love another referendum but without much more stringent laws I’d fear for a fair result. First would have to be 60/40 majority. Then very tight control indeed of donations. Tight control of postal ballots and also of counting. Can it be done?

You think the EU would even entertain the idea while Farage is still there with his politics of blame?

jako87.bsky.social @jako87.bsky.social

The EU probably would, but it is not up to the EU. All individual EU countries must support the UK joining again and all have a veto. One French veto is enough as they have shown the first two times the UK tried to join.

Brexit didn’t just weaken the UK - it undermined unity and resilience across Europe and beyond. The only winners seem to be authoritarian regimes that thrive on division, destabilise nations, and disregard the planet 🕊️💙💛💙

Brexit was never about 'getting our sovereignty back' or 'getting control of our borders', that was just what the right wing press portrayed to the British people. Brexit was only ever about wealthy people wanting to avoid EU scrutiny, employment laws and taxation regulations IMHO.

There should’ve been a second referendum before brexit even happened, after what would’ve been the status quo today, had been negotiated, to give people the choice, the true choice. I blame Theresa May, she was the first one with the hot potato that could’ve been the adult in the room 🙈

That’s what the Irish did, they had a consultation period and then a second vote. I think Mogg said it would be “perfectly democratic”.

It’s when he realised he could lie about everything, & enough people would believe him. It’s been a downward spiral of mendacity & manipulation, ever since that point in his career, so low he now just sits in front of a rudimentary green screen, lying to an iPhone 16 camera on some obscure channel.
