To make housing affordable, look at cities around the world that have done it. Almost all of them: 1. Make it easy to build 2. Prevent ultra-rich and corps from buying housing for speculation 3. Build tons of public housing/have public financing 4. Have strong rent control
aren’t they reporting slightly more than 25% of homes sold this year were bought by investors, when the neighborhood where I live was being built it was listed as a ‘hot community’ and the investors hit, so many rentals exist & the HOA covenant amended to block Airbnb residences
What cities?
In the US, we end up with a lot of people fighting on specific points of these. But we really need to do all of them. Successful countries make housing plans that incorporate all of this, they don’t fight over single policies or hope one bit of deregulation will fix it all.
The whole concept that housing should only ever increase in value needs to go away. When housing prices fall in the US, banks stop lending and builders stop building.
Housing, just like DUE PROCESS for citizens and immigrants, OR health care, OR education retraining unemployment, OR ... SHOULD be solid, reliable community investments using the work of the working stiffs in the community for the investments. Fascists don't want that, cuz ... ?? 1of
