9% of US troops surveyed say they would obey any order they are given, even if it is illegal. 9% say they don’t know what they’d do. 2% refused to answer. The majority understand their legal duty to disobey illegal orders.

Those who end up being court-martialed will rue the day they ever admitted they'd follow an illegal order, and went on record to say so. THEY KNEW. Let that sink in. These are the armed men patrolling the streets of the nation's capital. If that does not make your blood run cold, nothing will.

We asked the author for you and she notes that there are exceptions to the retirement age for certain troops. "With a margin of error of about 1%, this proportion is statistically indistinguishable from zero, which is consistent with what would be expected given military retirement policies."
