I was on a plane and connected to one of my servers at home via SSH and setup Audiobookshelf and downloaded a couple of books to try it out and everything worked flawlessly, self hosting and Tailscale are amazing

I really don’t know shit about self hosting and would like to become less reliant on the big guys. Can you point me to a good resource to start learning? I’m like basic competency but can figure shit out. Cheers.
I'm literally in the middle of editing a video for this but try the YouTube channels Hardware Haven, @jeffgeerling.com , Raid Owl or many others. I know Switch and Click just started a series but it's not really a guide. It's really not as hard as it seems.
Thank you!!!!
Honestly if you have any questions feel free to dm. I'm only really on here for sportsball and waiting for my edible to kick in for sleep.
Really drives home how little innovation there is in tech these days, barring schemes to seek rent, proprietize and mysticize experiences, and extract and monetize personal data.
Companies like Tailscale really stand out for simply building a useful product that works and not trying to fuck you in the process. You end up approaching even the good ones with a heavy dose of skepticism
Tailscale is so much more useful than most tech “innovations” of the last 5 years
At first I thought there had to be a catch and when I finally set it up it really was magic. I can do everything I want from anywhere, and all of my traffic routes through my home with the same ad blocking and privacy protections
