I mean in theory it could in some situations, but so could just a functional law that prevents credit card companies from refusing service based on some individual morality.

Yeah but this rely too much on citizens being decent human beings. But yeah, I'm a big fan of the usual "in theory, it can, but in practice ...", that just stupidity for me. Reality is what it is, pretending that something could be different to defend something is kinda dumb.

Humanity is hungry for a solution to the problem, that’s all. Understanding the root cause, “the problem” and how it impacts everything above it is crucial to pursuing a solution. Bitcoin solves a lot of “the problem”, once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

but the whole point of crypto is that anyone can just open up some open source code and make an improved permissionless state machine without waiting for some great policy change to come along to make a private cos state machine better

Ya, and how did that work out over the last few years? Lots of solutions that have provided safe and effective replacements for currency? Or just a bunch of ghost chain scams that thrived on hype and then died as they sucked up money from others only to be turned back into fiat to spend.

It's not really true though. If you change something on others don't agree, they also can just not follow you. So, you do need permission to *effectively* do something. The whole decentralized part is also not really true for the same reason. The scripts are open-source but not the community.

I can make whatever modifications I want to my validator. If reduce my vote latency by 50% and increase my slot inclusion to 100%, I’ve benefited the network with no permission. Jump is doing this also with Firedancer. Just building improvements and shipping software that benefits the network.

You know how many times Ive heard this exact type of statement from people who were just straight up scamming people? Im not saying thats what youre doing, Im just saying that the space, doesnt have any credibility and the lack of oversight, just allows for people to steal from others.

The whole idea was that people can just join using their own computers, but all these platforms have make it like the current system, but worst. Every ideas and concepts that it was attempting to be has been corrupted, a bit like Christianity, just being misrepresented by scammers.

Look at Firedancer, DoubleZero, Light Protocol, Jito, Helius… and the folks working on dev tools like Anchor, Gill, Pinocchio, Steel framework etc… These are all people who just decided to just do things and add network optimizations without permission. We can’t do that with credit card networks

I don't know much about these. On the other end, so much efforts being spend on something that is just speculation. Instead of concrete things, Mozilla added groups, like multiple years after Chrome. Every libraries I use haven't been updated in years. And there is this, with so much money.

It's just a global state machine. E.g. if something happens in Singapore, how do you get a node in NYC to reflect it as soon as possible. The speculation is just the where the stress testing comes from. A bunch of traders fighting for contested state. A bunch of programs fighting for compute.
