I like it whenever I get to spent time in the Alien universe, and they take the opportunity to show us new ideas. So I like it! I'm not a fan of modern Vibes Based TV where all they have to do is get to to wonder what's going to happen so you watch the next episode? But I like it.

For me Alien is Alien/Aliens, which are part I & II of the same movie. Everything else is particularly expensive fan fiction, so I don’t mind if they take things in a new direction (I prefer it in fact). This is why I didn’t dislike Prometheus, despite it being very flawed. Yup, I like Alieb Earth

I've liked all the Alien movies I've seen, I don't need them to all be ZOMG classics like Alien and Aliens. I even like the idea of Alien and Predator happening in the same universe, why not?

I’ll see you one better, in my head canon Blade Runner, Outland & Alien are not only in the same universe, in some ways they’re a trilogy 💜✨💫

I think the trick is, every Alien thing I've seen since the first one: Aliens, Alien3, Resurrection, Prometheus, Romulus, Isolation, the people working on them OBVIOUSLY loved the Alien universe and just had tons of cool ideas for it. A:Earth is the same way. Lots of cool new ideas!

This. It’s a bit like wrestling (or metal), people who like it just *love* it. It’s a bit of a niche franchise, but it’s an intelligent sci-fi universe with a lot to say about

You might like Aliens: Phalanx by @scottsigler.bsky.social. He absolutely loves the Aliens universe and did a great job with the story.

It's just hard for me to fall in love with serial fiction where nothing ever resolves, and we spend hours just going in circles while they pack a two-hour movie into 8 hours. It's just not for me.

Fucking THANK YOU. The subscription model took entertainment out of TV. I can tell when my time is being wasted.

It's the same reason, mostly, I stopped reading fantasy. I value stories with a beginning, middle, and end. I spent my time in the Serial Content trenches with the X-men in the 80s. When I realized most of these subplots were never going to resolve, and it was just constant Plot Churn, I gave up.

It is Star Trek: Brave New World vs Star Trek: Picard. I can accept that BNW's metaplot might not get resolved because every episode is still a complete story, usually quite good. Picard, on the other hand, has all the hallmarks of being a series that is just stringing me along.

Read better serial fiction. I refuse to write any serialized fiction that doesn't wrap it's "current plot" in the same season. I try to keep it tight but fun, example: Season 1: 1-12 episodes is ideal. Season Plot + Piece of over-plot. Not having an "end" in mind is dumb Lit-RPG Territory.

This is why I can't get in to TV any more. Give me original cinema any day of the week instead

I feel like there are, separately, a good Alien story and a good transhumanism story, but where they intersect is consistently jarring and bland. The "Wendy's hearing noises" subplot, for insistence.

Noah Hawley isn't perfect (season 4 of Fargo, everything after season 1 of Legion) but he's always interesting and usually very good at making old playgrounds feel new.
