How much of this is not fixable though? My heart is beyond broken. I have tried to stay positive ever since his first disastrous term, but I just can't be very positive anymore.

Never insist on being positive when it comes to world affairs. Be realistic. If things are going well, be happy, if not, be mad or turn the news off. Overly optimistic people only get disapointed or taken out.
