My stray turns one year old at my house, today! I have five cats now, you can easily do the same, if you're not at Five already!😂

Yet another grandchild tested positive for cat allergy today 😔. This means I cannot take on another pet after losing my beloved Charleston in April (aged 18 years!). And I was just about to let in one of my favourite strays that comes regularly to visit. My heart hurts. #catlover

stinging nettle (despite its name, nothing will sting) capsules every day for a month and it'll fix the allergy for a very long time. I've been fine for decades.

I have tested positive for dog and cat allergies but lived with them without issue. i also will have different allergic reactions to different cats. you still might be able to adopt again, an allergy isnt always serious

The child tested today was actively wheezing on her last visit. And I've had no cat indoors since Charleston passed in April. So I'm not optimistic.

well i got allergy shots for a few years and they really helped. i know might not be possible for everyone, but remember that theres reason to stay hopeful :)

Liveclear is a Purina brand cat food that blocks the allergens cats shed and helps the humans who love them. Maybe that could be tried?

Omg….. I thought I was the only one who named their stray “Cat Stevens!!!!” I was calling him Cat. Primarily in case he disappeared, then I’d feel sad. So I thought what goes with the Cat name. Thus Stevens. A classic rocker I think…. Haven’t seen him today. Hopefully he’s in someone’s house????

Tbh, it's the insurance costs. I have 2 cats and a dog. The £150 food bill a month is not inconsiderable, but insurance as they age is eye watering.

Luckily I live remote enough that the last stray that passed here was Mons, and I kept him. And that’s soon a year ago. I hope more won’t turn up because I dont know if I could reject a cat in need of help.

I don't want cats, I have two cats. They ruin the furniture, and I don't want to think about how many cables they've murdered. But, uh, Ziggy looks after my mom (he's a snuggler), Dude grooms me for fleas, and they both play with the dog. I don't have fleas, so that's cool, I guess.

I have two ferral cats that have come to depend on me to feed them twice a day. Its like clockwork.

I helped a lady get her burgeoning colony of 53 sterilized and stabilized by a local S/N group that operates on ferals for free. She feeds 3X/day with a hot meal in wintertime, so they're treated a lot better than many pets. She dedicated half her garage for a shelter for them.

Amazing ! These cats of mine appear to have been part of a trap and release program. They both have the tip of their left ear clipped. So at least I know they are neutered. They are braver by the season but still keep their distance.

Sounds right, and i'd reckon there's a tattoo on the belly near the scar, too. Most high-volume S/N clinics do that now to prevent an unnecessary opening of the abdomen again if it's not clear.

These two probably will never let me check their tummies.

My cousin reduced her feral colony by doing the same,. Except she had her husband close in & heat their patio off the kitchen. It took 10yr, but no more feral cats. She still has the patio enclosed just in case.

My feral cat lady was given a pregnant cat just 3 years before mayhem ensued! We missed one mama the first round last fall,so there was one more Spring litter, but we got those and nothing new since.

Me, too! We volunteer at a local shelter and the fact we don’t own a cat farm by now is a miracle! Most kitties get adopted by good people, which helps the urge.

We've trapped and fixed ten ferals. Some vanished upon their return, one got sick and passed, and we have five partially-tamed ones. We have four heated cat houses and a heated water dish, but I wish I could bring them all in.

You can trap and spay/neuter the feral or work with a group to do so and you pay for it. They will then release them and you can help feed them. The adoptable ones you can pull off the street and place with rescue group. If you can spay/neuter and vaccinate for the group, all thebetter.

Ditto. In Istanbul, Cats have more "Feedom" than Americans. They get to roam & enjoy freedom all over the city. "Kindness" to cats is not unique in Turkey. They provide cats with free food shelter & water. I saw many cats in university classrooms, on ferry, bus seat, subway, etc.

I have four strays I adopted (foster fails). The rest were TNR'd from which many were adopted after sent to rescue. Best job ever but no pay. The reward of having rescued one more life is awesome.

Rescued cats are so loving because they have suffered so much

All of ours have been rescues. Our first three came from shelters and our tabby boy was bequeathed from my sister who had tow kitties of her own and couldn’t take on a third. He was the most loving, gentle cat. We had an outside toilet and he would use his paws to open the door and trot in.
