TBF in that scenario you’re also outsourcing a lot of “parenting” to your older children. My father was the oldest of 7 and by the time the oldest was able to look after the youngest, my grandmother went out an got a part time job.

Not saying that’s good, or bad, just observing that some sort of parenting is still happening.
On the flip side I think it’s completely reasonable to expect a fair amount of assistance from a child who’s substantially older than their siblings. All the kids ought to participate in chores and home tasks and supervising the young kiddos is one of them (I was the oldest by eight years)
Obviously there’s a place we need do to draw the line on this but I find I draw mine in a different place than most of Bluesky
