I was on Sky News earlier this week talking about the government’s proposals for reforming the asylum appeals system. As I explained, they’ve come up with a complicated solution to a simple problem. The Home Office makes bad decisions. Review those decisions (sensibly) and you clear the backlog.
When politics guides you disaster looms, this will be no different. But I do say the Asylum appeals system is a failure, as in no one is out to kill the migrants, as no one cares about them. Suggest we stop pretending that this is just another political game.
Exactly. The asylum backlog is something the government has complete control over. The fact that it is in such a mess is down to total mismanagement. There are no excuses for the government’s failure, which further emboldens the racists.
Absolutely! The appeals backlog in particular is 100% within the government’s control, and they’ve chosen not to fix it in favour of more performative cruelty.
