Two episodes in, Alien: Earth appears to be a bog-standard Alien story told over eight hours instead of two. I'm not sure there are enough Noah Hawley flourishes to make that a workable concept.

i kinda think it might be better without any connection to the alien franchise
It's especially strange because Prometheus was just a few months ago and it's basically the same story (down to the human/synth sibling relationship). I really thought they'd try to do something different for a TV series.
You mean Romulus I presume? Even that was a year ago
Pretty much my reaction as well, and I may not continue with it. Hawley's strength is quirky and morally compromised characters, but these seem drawn entirely from the Alien playbook.
It has many bad/annoying qualities and almost no good ones. People I think are smart and have generally good taste seem to like it, but I am unconvinced.
There are things I like about it, but they're all in the realm of embroidery around the main concept, which I don't think is going to work.
I found the timeline a bit confusing, and there's too much splatter gore for my taste (vs. the understated suspense horror of the original). The Peter Pan analogies are unsubtle. Timothy Olyphant's hair is great, though.
