Honestly, we're cooked in Canada that way. There's a few weapons you can legally own and never carry for self-defense. As a trans woman, if the stores are closed, and I have no good reason for carrying pepper spray, I could be charged for pepper spraying an assailant committing a hate crime

As a result, I have fled every hate crime I've been a victim of.

The police literally tell women they cannot carry pepper spray. It's sick. We don't need America's gun nut culture, but we are so far in the other direction, it's illegal to defend yourself. There's a white guy in ontario on trial right now for stabbing a home invader in HIS OWN FUCKING HOUSE

so you can only imagine how trans people get it. Multiple cases of trans women charged with murder for defending themselves.

Just because it’s defense doesn’t mean it’s not murder. Just because you’re defending yourself doesn’t mean you get to go overboard and murder. You defend YOURSELF, not aim to kill others. Shoot in the foot and run, as woman who’s been in this situation and conceal carries.
