My Methodist church put out a formal statement that they WILL NOT endorse any candidate ever, or tell anyone how to vote. So, I'm glad that's where I worship. We welcome everyone, believe Christ's love is for all, and seek only to help the vulnerable and broken people in our world.

The Johnson Amendment passed more than 70 years ago by Congress applies to all charitable nonprofits, secular and religious. The IRS rule change is at odds with that law. Expect forthcoming legal challenges over this.

Part of U.S. Tax Code since the 1950's, but in 2017 Trump signed an executive order that effectively downgraded enforcement of it. The IRS has been pretty lax in enforcement, anyway. With this new rule change, it's just another piece of their Christian Nationalist agenda.
