The onerous process Oregon put in place in the 1970s to stymie nuclear plants is now being used to stall wind and solar projects, and one 76-year-old has filed more challenges to green energy proposals than anyone in the state.

Boomers living in the past and too narcissistic to govern. “ ‘can’t live with it, can’t live without it, don’t want to pay for it’ “ ~ Blyth Prosperity & health is a communal affair with long ranging implications, time to stop loudest voice spending their day engaging in ideological obstruction.
Eventually, she'll go away.
At 76, she can F around and not find out.
Bitter old nutjobs ruin this planet.
There we have it - gun store owner"
76 yo and tick-tock the clock…as soon as she’s dead those filed challenges are dead too
Republicans are a disease.
How about crochet instead? Much better hobby weirdo. Make the world hotter for your descendants. .
I wish she lived with in a red state where their policy is still 19th and 20th century technology, instead of impeding progress there in Oregon.
Fossil fuel companies have loved this one weird trick since the 1970s
So has she totaled the jobs she's killed, or the energy cost increases she has forced on others, or unsightly power transmission lines from distant power generation plants, or cost increases people will incur thanks to her personal abuse of obscure processes? #Republicans are so vindictive.
What a cucking funt.
Come on Irene
Chef’s kiss 👍
this one is a total loser
fuck the old people in this country ruining the world after our advances in modern medicine made it so they could live past 50. boomers and Gen X are a disease fr
Just kick her out of Oregon. She can move to Texass
Blighting the rural landscape? Is she nuts? Wind turbines are cool looking. Makes the place look like a Star Wars planet. But I guess she enjoys the look when the steam comes off one of the meth labs in the morning. God I hate rurals!!!
Reminds me of rich retirees blocking affordable housing! I was told, after going after Private Equity, that others are facing the same issues with with rich retirees. WTH?!!!
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Do you mean older folks buying starter homes so they are living on one level and downsizing, which is honestly a good alternative to having falls or living in retirement homes that are rife with neglect? Or something else?
Here's an article he sent: www.vox.com/22524829/wal...
I'll find what was explained to me and post it for you.
Why doesn't someone just 💀 these fucking MAGAT bitches?
Is she loony?
Clearly
Somebody needs to shift this obsessive energy and get her into a tumultuous relationship with a chatbot that takes up all of her time for the remainder of her days.
one can only hope her life becomes comprised by climate collapse b/c where else can one turn for accountability
The irony of environmentalists choosing and winning their battle against Nuclear energy that then set back the war against greenhouse gases for decades
100% nuclear is the densest and greenest energy we've ever found, and yet
Too bad nuclear waste is a forever problem
Funny you say this cause most experts think that reality e to the amount of emission free energy that’s produced, there’s way less of a byproduct than any other form of energy
Point taken. I am certainly no expert. Nuclear waste gives me the creeps. Maybe if I were more educated I would feel differently, I don’t know.
Don't beat yourself up, the media jumped on Nuclear scare themes and that's most of the info people got. A lot of people's knowledge of Nuclear energy doesn't go much deeper than things they saw on The Simpsons
What a 🌮
Ah, rural landowners. Cows are destructive to wilderness, timber cutters like her are devastating to it, farms can exist just fine w/ towers & solar panels (see Europe) & use less resources & gov cash doing it, but let's pretend she's protecting wilderness instead of just landowner power.
I don't think she comes off as a crank as the majority of the comments state. A very well written article, but doesn't mention the dismal role the power companies play in PNW transmission lines. www.opb.org/article/2025...
When Karens get older, they turn into Irenes.
Extremist imbecile
Big Oil's stooge.
Opposing wind and solar makes no sense - unless, of course, Irene spends her waking hours listening to FOX News. Wind and solar are unlimited sources of energy and they are cheaper and cleaner! Fossil fuel is dirty, expensive, unhealthy and endangers the climate.
Also, of course, this decaying cunt is an ammosexual and a timber-industry whore. Naturally!
So this utterly vile, decaying old cunt has solar panels on its own house but fights tooth and nail against green energy? Typical Rapeublicon.
had she registered as a lobbyist ?
"The 76-year-old retired state employee, former gun store owner and avid elk hunter from La Grande, Oregon, is on a mission to keep turbines and transmission towers from blighting the rural landscape." " blighting" wonder what side this " reporting" is on?
"She" will be dead long after the harm "she" done. Probably thinks the earth is flat enough already. Complete asshole.
She likes filing the protest because she says “it keeps my brain working”. She could do Sudoku and Wordle but instead she’s ruining sustainable energy projects. But - in the end, it’s Oregon state legislators who could fix this. And they’re not.
officials should treat it like filing false police reports. then she’ll suddenly discover scrabble.
Or that jail bathrooms don’t have doors. Either way 😜🤷♀️
Can we sue her for polluting or air, water, and lands with her big oil dirty energy?
Some people want a legacy of good, others, not so much.
Old people are happy to destroy the world on their way out. May nature take its course soon.
When you think about it, is ageism really any different than racism?
yes?
yeah, never mind capitalism and all that, old people are the problem so why not be happy that life expectancy is going backwards, and the environment is going to shit? with the proper pollution levels, nobody will grow older than 30 and everybody can be all cool and super wise 24/7 ^_^
What do you suppose they call her, "Pollution Karen"? 🤷♂️
She's more Liberal than the "Liberals." She's doing exactly what the laws were intended to do, and pushing back against corpos that could be seizing popular sentiment to pave over natural resources with good greenwashing propaganda.
I agree to an extent. It's hard to say for sure whether the power companies involved are actually doing their utmost to ensure as little damage is done as possible, as well as whether or not what she's doing is short sighted or not. But yeah, a lot of people are making hateful comments. Not helpful
I wonder if she's going to get death threats now. That would be funny.
Fuck this lady, man what the hell
Oh look, yet another boomer doing shit to ruin their grandchildren’s future so they can benefit in the pettiest way possible
And they’ll be the loudest whiners when their electricity bills triple.
“Gun store owner” tells you all you need to know. Add in “married into a timber and ranching family” and you get the complete picture of a person bent on making the future a living hell for humanity to protect her own selfish interests in the short-term.
I mean, that was my impression at first, but we should consider the impacts of land use and pollution that comes from building new infrastructure. I don't know what exactly it would take, but she at least claims to be willing to back down under the right circumstances.
Of course we should consider the environmental impacts of land use. That said, evidence indicates that impact of building energy infrastructure that’s not tied to fossil fuel extraction and use is much less harmful.
That's a fair point. I have to wonder too if clean energy is the only thing she chases or if she even considers going after stuff that does more harm...
That might still be too idealistic and not practical, but I can't help noticing the larger issues that barely got touched on like the data centers sucking up more power than ever, the government being unwilling to change old provisions that weren't the best thought out to begin with.
Nuclear energy has potential that has been sidelined because of safety concerns, and those are valid of course, but the point still stands. It makes me think of the argument that turbines are bad for birds, and the reality is that buildings are worse but don't get the same opposition.
So, I do have to wonder if this is well meaning but short sighted, but I also think we shouldn't be too quick to side with the power companies in this case. IDK, I just think this is complex and it makes me sad seeing so much hate without further reflection.
It’s not “hate” to question the motivations of people whose backgrounds are tied to industries and practices that have caused untold violence and environmental damage that has already harmed way too many for the sake of personal profit.
Sorry, I should have made it clearer that I wasn't specifically meaning you about the hate. I haven't responded to the genuinely hateful stuff that's been in this comment section calling her names and saying her getting death threats would be funny, saying they hope she gets sucked into ChatGPT, etc
I think it's reasonable to question her motives. I also think it's fine to consider the point of view of people who work the land. A lot of us are very separated from it, and any kind of infrastructure building is going to have impacts on the areas involved.
👏👏👏
Stupidity knows no age.
Another a-hole deciding life for others. I hope she gets "thanked" everytime she walks out her door.
A kkkuny christian Kkkaren!
I'm sure Donald Trump loves her. She will probably get a Kennedy Center Lifetime Achievement award.
Oregon’s 1970s anti nuke siting maze is now a choke point for wind and solar. One activist has filed 15 challenges — more than anyone in the state — but the real fix is in Salem: streamline the rules, build the lines, and the bottleneck breaks. #EnergyFuture
"I kind of have a reputation". As if it's a good thing.
What an asshole. She can take her leave of the planet anytime now.
Now I understand why so many corporations have been created or moved to Washington state.
