thought this was a come-on...they filed April 9th of this year.
Another buggy whip industry bites the dust.
Should have budgeted better.
Nobody’s buying magazine subscriptions anymore
There was that big house they always showed - built with a magazine money I believe - can they sell that?
I was Just on their site yesterday all is well.
This couple did receive $750,000 over the past 4 years. There should be something left of that to give them a great step forward, unlike all the fired PCH employees who just have to move on. Having trouble working up a ton of sympathy for the prize winners.
They shoulda called JG Wentworth & Associates. Just sayin.
ooh! good point!
How do you know their situation? How would you like it if you were promised something and the corporation decided to not pay?
I have no idea what the title means.
Publishers Clearing House sold magazine subscriptions. They also ran a sweepstakes with large prizes awarded as annuities over many years. They went bankrupt, and the couple above, who won 4 years ago, probably won't get the rest of their prize money.
It used to be different. It was legit for a very long time. Then people started phone scamming, telling old people they were PCH and stealing all of their money, and PCH did/said nothing.
Back when they still sent out mailers on a regular basis, they were kinda legit. At least all you had to do was put a form in an envelope and mail it back. That said, there were rumors that if you didn't order a magazine your entry went in the magic circular file. 1/
But when they went to computers instead it got so much worse. My mom asked me to fill it out once. It was sheer torture. It took like 20 minutes to get the damn thing submitted, constant ads, and half the screens felt like "this site gave my computer cancer" variety. 2/
And as others have noted, not doing anything about the scans sure AF didn't help them, either. 3/3
I was a kid then and had the time to actually read those mailers. Unless you bought magazines, you were not entered. To enter without buying magazines, you had to get a postcard with all the right stickers from the mailer JUST RIGHT and send that in.
Ah I see. That sucks 😞
I had no idea 🤷♀️ so very sad for these folks.
Jail the directors. It would change the world if directors of such entities had to at their debts and then were jailed. I’ll give free expert testimony.
had to at their debts
Class action lawsuits let corporations literally get away with murder by paying the lawyers far more than the victims. If you held the executive who made the decisions to kill for profit criminality accountable, yep, this bullshit would stop.
The got a 6 figure check for four years and it's all gone? WTF?
Nobody said that. They could have taken on a mortgage with 15 or 30 years of payments that rely on future payouts, a totally reasonable financial plan considering they had a contract. They might have to declare bankruptcy themselves to get out of this and end up worse than before they won.
Seriously, have compassion. They’re not the bad guys, the corporation that reneged on its contract are the bad guys here.
My son cant save money either, he lives like he's rich until the money runs out and he's begging for more.
You’re not listening
Thers something I've heard on more than one occasion, and maybe you have too: "A fool and his money are soon parted"
I know, right?
When a ponzi scheme ends.
'PCH'calls here twice a month and more. Seems we have had yuuge prize winnings waiting to be releaed to us- for the past 5+ years. Cars and Millions, if only I let their belligerent 'representative explain why we need to send a release form and processing fee. PCH died when they quit fighting scams.
Don’t rely on game schemes and gambling. Problem solved.
And someone is supposed to feel sorry for them?
any winners who got hundreds of thousands should be greatful, and yes, it sucks they didn't get the rest of what they were promised, but many of us aren't so lucky to have gotten 750K like they did, and think of the poor winners this last year or such, that got no checks despite thinking they were!
This couple should be the first to be paid from their assets.
Sucks but it's prize money, not income, "The prize payments... had given them the wherewithal to afford trips... a European anniversary getaway, a Christmas rail journey to Canada... and a concert in Las Vegas with their daughter. Losing the income so abruptly has forced them to scramble."- Very sad
Oh no they can’t afford vacations and concerts. Let me get out my…damn all out of tiny violins again.
What we have here is an ordinary hard-working American couple who happened to get lucky and win a sweepstakes, then got screwed by a corporation. With a contract promising certain regular payments they budgeted accordingly and now the contact isn’t being honored. People should have compassion.
They probably won’t end up destitute but there’s a good chance they have a large mortgage with payments that depend on what they were promised. To get out of their obligations they will also have to declare bankruptcy. Their credit will be ruined, and they’ll likely end up poorer than they began.
These people did nothing wrong and if you’re resentful of them because they were temporarily kinda rich (without exploiting workers) then the corporate class in this country are laughing at you for essentially turning on your own when a corporation screwed them.
