all for the splitting of power … but this didn't help in russia w/putin, it didn't help in germany in 1933, and given the current make-up of congress + the senate, if a parliament were similarly held be one party beholden to an ideologue, it probably wouldn't make any difference here, either.

You may well be correct on this. I feel like it works well-ish for Germany now. It doesn't look foolproof, and I hope it continues to serve Germany as it is.

i would love for democracies to come up with a foolproof way to take power out of the hands of any one group. i often wish we could go back to the early days of congress where it was one rep for every 30,000 people. imagine trying to gerrymander that. and we have tech for a 10,000 rep congress.

Well, one thing we have to do is get rid of the billionaires. Everybody or anyone can have a bad idea. Only the billionaires can implement these bad ideas. When you can buy the government, it’s a problem. Having a billion dollars is like having a nuclear bomb. Never know when it may explode.

maybe we should put a cap on how much wealth one person can have. because at a certain point there is no possible way you can say you will ever NEED all that money, while there are many people who do need it badly.
