It's a good thing that state law has protections (fought for by YIMBYs) to ensure rent controlled units are replaced. Any low-income tenants are provided relocation assistance and given first right of refusal. Even if tenants choose not to return, the units stay protected w/affordable rent.

Genuinely curious: are there examples of how this has worked out in real life? What sort of transitional assistance do tenants get in between demolition and replacement? How often do they end up being able to return?
