i mentioned to my dad that the lads were getting bunkbeds soon and he said oh good, my brothers and i had triple decker bunkbeds. i said did you ever fall off? he said "no but your uncle charles fell off every single night for a year which is why he's like that"

I slept on the top bunk from ages 4-12 and only fell off once that I remember. Luckily we had a very small room with too many stuffed animals and it was a soft landing.

good thing the girls got their own private rooms and by the time richard was born my dad was away in college because i think falling off a six level bunk bed would actually crack your skull

if any of you knew charles you would instantly know that he is indeed "like that" he's the only person i've ever met who has provoked a nun until she punched him. knocked his tooth out and he has a gold one there now

My younger brother insisted on the top bunk until about the 6th time he fell off. Maybe he would've given up sooner if we hadn't had the "twin top bunk, full lower bunk" style. It's probably why I can't get to sleep unless I'm on the edge of the bed though

When very young I was introduced to the monster 'Ou Platkop', a creature as thin as a shadow who sneaks through the gaps in the window to hide under beds and if you stick a limb over the edge will drag you under and away. I have incredible sleep-proprioception, never fallen out of a bed in my life

No one ever fell out of bed (much) when graduating from the crib when i was a kid but we did have an antique chamber pot that saw a lot of use for one of us siblings to mitigate b*d w*tting

More things should be made out of enamelware— you’d think a chamberpot would be stinky but if you’re on top of cleaning up it’s waaaay nicer than the plastic commode situations I have dealt with caring for elders

My dad shared a bed with four brothers and he was the youngest so he slept in the middle. He fell off the top bunk his first week of boot camp because he'd never been near the edge of the bed before lol

My thought is if one doesn’t fall out of a regular bed, why would being higher change that? The sleeping body somehow doesn’t roll out of bed, normally. It’s kind of wild that even asleep we roll around the bed but not off

they say kids don't develop the sleeping sense of where the edge of the bed is for quite some time but the lads have always had floorbeds, they never had cribs, and they haven't rolled off their beds since they were like 4 months old

And most bunk beds for kids have rails. Though my friend jumped off my bunk bed when we were 8 Broke his arm

the ones we're getting for the lads are very short, even if they fell off the very top onto the carpet they wouldn't be able to break anything. they're like half scale

We just got bunk beds for our boys (3/6). The bottom one is on the floor and the top one is not that high and has a solid wood railing. Working great so far. Picture is from when we built them.

we were thinking about putting a kind of fabric enclosure around the bottom to make it a playhouse during the day?! with little windows and doors?!

Yes! Both me and my brothers and my kiddos used sheets/blankets to make little forts with the bottom bunk. The lads would probably enjoy that.
