i know a kid named Thorin but he actually is not named for LOTR but for the like, OG norwegian story-cycle from which tolkien got the name, and his parents had not seen LOTR and were unaware of the character Thorin Oakenshield when they named him, and now have to explain this ceaselessly

I had a friend in middle school named Lórien which was short for Lothlórien and was 100% about the elves She was explaining it even then, but I'm guessing the explanation had to shift a bit when Fellowship dropped

It's from Völuspá in Poetic Edda; most of the Dwarves (plus Gandalf) get their names from it. I know a Frodo, also Norwegian.
