there's a beanbag toss game (cornhole?) at the coffee shop and it never occurred to me to teach the lads how to play because i thought "that's a game for adults" being only familiar with it from obnoxious wedding receptions and expensive breweries next to axe throwing places

I was only familiar with it as a children's game until I saw it around for adults a few years ago

underrated plus of putting away childish things: letting children have a turn

At the taproom here the corn hole set is mostly used by small children. I don't think I've ever seen the adults use it

When I grew up it was a game for kids. This whole adults playing it thing is weird.

Very common game in my life. Sort of like the transitional answer to horseshoes. Easy to transport. Simple for kids to understand and play and have a way to connect with people they might not otherwise hang with. More people are open to it than other party-like games in my experience.

I still call it "beanbag toss" like the child of the 70s that I am.

Its interesting that cornhole was a pretty rare thing to see a decade ago and now everybody has cornhole at reunions, birthday parties, bars.

I mean? It's nice to have something to do while standing around? We kept our horseshoe pit at the cabin for the same reason ... it's been there for decades though.

I think its popularity is bc it is: 1. Simple game/set up 2. Cheap, can DIY one 3. Hard to hurt someone with the bean bags, unlike lawn darts

I learned it in humid summer Wisconsin in 2006 with beer drinking 20 somethings. It's a Thing to Do that doesn't work up a sweat, is portable unlike croquet (which I often played around that time) or horseshoes, lighter than bocce etc.
