the 4H ambassador at the state fair told me that multnomah county 4H, which has long been non-existent, forcing kids to go over to clackamas county, is coming back! they got their extension service money! she says it's only in schools as of right now but soon it will be a full program

That's so cool! Whenever people talk about homeschoolers not being socialized enough I ask if they've tried 4-H. Between being very involved in church and signing up for TWELVE 4-H clubs every year, my sister and I had plenty of social time. Probably too much.

i asked about a timeline for the full program and she said she didn't know but definitely by the time the lads can join cloverbuds at 5 it should be fully armed and operational
this is gonna kick ass. we're gonna collect bugs and pin them and do robotics club and all kinds of stuff. they have folk dancing!

I used to do 4H entomology back in the day! I was actually really good at it. Grand champion at county, but my parents never took me to state. We also did baking, sewing, art, and geology.
What animal do you think each of them would want to raise?
she said they don't have to even do animals if we don't want to! so maybe nothing. but we have lots of space so they could do chickens or rabbits or even a small pig
Also I don't know which schools have a program, but when my kids were young it was Sunnyside, and I'd expect they'd try there again.

I sure hope this works out! My kiddos are adults now, and we kept trying and hoping for a real 4H presence. Come on! Portlanders love keeping chickens and canning things!
When I was a kid in rural OK, our 4H was at school. It had to be, we all rode the bus.
