Extreme shucking
Serious answer: stripping. Using a corn stripper. You strip the kernels off.
what if i use a knife which i do
Different tool, same result. Same verb?
Yeah it's stripping the kernels off whatever tool you're using
it's definitely the closest word we have but i still think it's not specific enough. lots of kitchen tasks have ultra specialized vocabulary and i think that task needs its own word
maybe there is one but it's not in english
you know i came comment to suggest native american and i find the root here
Threshing
Maybe this is because corn is a New World food? I feel like if it were native to Europe we'd have a very ancient word for this in English
cornsaw™
We said de-cobbing the corn, or just de-cobbing for short. We always had to de-cob my older brothers corn when we had corn on the cob after he had his front teeth replaced after a pole vaulting accident.
“Degloving the cob”
How about ‘dekernelling’ 😂
There is one but I can’t remember it!
I call it dekerning (for kernels)
Dekernel Kernelectomy
Cob shavin’
I was in charge of this task for my younger brother so for a while it was "cut Kevin's corn" and then "Kev that corn". So I propose kevving for this action.
Degloving
Time to invent a new word. @spindlypete.bsky.social - you get to declare the winning suggestion!
the verb i've seen used is "stripping"
Oxo says you’re peeling it. That’s dissatisfying.
popping full disclosure i just made that up and it's already taken. in retrospect, that might cause some confusion.
Cornin'
I call it thuck. It's what you do after you shuck. Helps if you like trains like me.
Is “decob” too on the nose?
I suggest "stiling" i made it up though
Can shelling be used for fresh corn or only dried?
it makes me picture dried anyway
