there's a house near our house that has a flagpole and they use it to fly an absolutely baffling array of flags, one at a time, changing them out every week or so. right now it's the flag of namibia. before it was lithuania and before that it was demiboy pride. what's going on here
There’s a house in Edinburgh that does something similar. IIRC they were flying the Vatican flag just after the pope died. My guess is cometary by flag on the news of the world.

Leading theory: They just like colors and stripes. It has never occurred to them that any of these flags mean anything, and it would be rude to taint their pure little world with knowledge.

House in our neighborhood has like 30 different countries that he rotates ~weekly. Some people really like flags. 😁
I stayed with family friends in Germany and when we arrived they were flying the Stars and Stripes (under the German flag of course), it felt incredibly welcoming - maybe your neighbor has lots of international friends?
I recently learned that other countries are starting to fly the US flag for fascist parades the way Germans would use the confederate flag because it's illegal to fly the Nazi flag. There's a lot of work to be done.
