I'm a little puzzled by this. Maybe I'm missing some serious pushback from greedy, but less ideological rich folks. Musk is publicly complaining, but it doesn't seem to be breaking through. I think part of the answer is that most of the Right is drunk on right-wing media.

There’s behind the scenes begging from farmers and construction businesses. Not nearly enough currently to overcome the hatred and racism pushing for concentration camps, plus very strong private prison lobby.

Capitalism fails without labor to exploit. Immigrants without permission to immigrate are a great source of exploitable labor. Our xenophobic immigration laws make it difficult to legally immigrate, on purpose, in order to ensure a steady supply of cheap labor.

Prison labor is even cheaper than undocumented immigrants, with the added ”benefit” of allowing the prisons themselves to extract a profit. What we’re doing now, by making immigrants prisoners, is making an even cheaper labor force.

That’s probably why there isn’t a lot of pushback from the capitalists. It’s depressing.
