This kind of thing enrages me because if these guys had any familiarity with manufacturing as it happens in practice—as opposed to in their imaginations—they would know that lots of it does in fact involve the computer.

This fucking dumbass should be gator bait not a fucking senator they're not talking about bringing back labor they're talking about instituting slavery there won't be any financial gain for the workers
Yup, worked in medical device manufacturing for a couple years before moving to Quality Systems engineering. 90% of what we did was computerized records or using a computer to run/do maintenance on the machines.
It's kinda funny to read about Tommy Tubes badmouthing computer usage. Coach Tubes couldn't count to 20 without taking-off his shoes and socks.
But probably won’t get health insurance & won’t earn enough to buy it🧌
Omg. This is a senator.
I had a whole job replacing desktops and laptops throughout all of Chrysler. There were alot of them especially in the factories. There were desks and cubicles in factories too. The environment is harsh and loud. They are fantasizing something they know nothing about.
It’s important to remember that not only is Tommy Tuberville a giant piece of shit, he’s also the dumbest motherfucker on the face of the earth.
This is 100% true. Thanks.
Manufacturing has been automated with computers for decades but what Tuberville is referring to is the Robber Baron sweatshop subjugation they want us to return to.
We exported manufacturing designs and engineering concepts across the globe, contributing to SE Asia's rise as the global manufacturing hub, driven into hyperdrive through the 2000s because of....flips pages.....the fucking computer.
Tell the abacus makers & horseshoe welders that also!! Tuberville is a complete moron
Manufacturing jobs do not pay well anymore. Those days are over. Unions are still weak and tiered workforces have significantly degraded wages.
A lot of ways to make a ton of money (like going into politics). You know those jobs where you sweat and use your hands.
On pain of death I don’t think this sitting senator could tell me what a CNC machine does.
Tuberville: I’m not stupid! A CNC machine is a band from Florida that made dance music in the 90s, my nephew said the DJ played it at his high school dance before the principal came in and unplugged the PA because it sounded like blasphemy
the weird jerkoff rabbi has found my post
Is it one of those things where you pull the string and it moos?
I was just about to comment “ever heard of a CNC lathe?” Tuberville is as stupid as he is racist.
Automation with PLCs for electric motors and supporting periphery, etc in manufacturing has been computer operated since the '80s. Management, project management, estimation, as-builts drawings, inventory control...you name it, it's all done digitally now.
It’s all screws and ball bearings for these guys
There is no way Tommy knows how ball bearings are used…I’ll grant him a screw, but begrudgingly.
It’s in the Music Factory. Everybody dance now!
“Uh, that’s part of the nickel defense, right?”
Or what that first "C" literally stands for.
Manufacturing is not “working with your hands”. It’s serving as a meat robot on an assembly line.
If Tuberville googled "CNC", he might be extra confused, not realizing that Google seems torn between "CNC" in the sense of (1) "Computer Numerical Control" machine tools & (2) "Consensual Non-Consent" kink. Of course, he & many of his colleagues just have horrific trouble understanding consent. 😬😢
That guy doesn’t know how to use google, he’d just go to whatever is on “cnc.com”
The latter is not a bad framework for understanding most work environments either
I think there's maybe a weird sort of pop-business book to be written -- one that could definitely get viral attention and maybe even one that could have good advice for both managers and employees -- that'd be "How to make workplace more humane and mutually enjoyable with lessons from CNC kink!"
PS 1/2 I briefly Googled "business books inspired by BDSM or CNC" thinking that "Hey, the incentives of capitalism to fill every niche probably have beat me to the proverbial punch... just like, oy!, the incentives of capitalism lead to employers both systematically underpaying their employees...
PS 2/2 ... and needing a reminder that even lavish pay does NOT remove the need to ensure their requests are 'safe, sane, & consensual' or similar lessons conceivably drawable from 'safe kink' pros" But Google found none except for some titles of, let's say office-set "romance", novels on Amazon. 🤔😘
"It makes footballs". -Tuberville, probably
There's not a single Republican that can explain Capitalism, comparative advantage and the global value chain, or why it's idiotic to believe that the Laffer Curve applies to current taxation levels in the US.
It commands and conquers, duh
That's generous.
They literally want us back on the line. Or in the mine. Or dead.
My dad did manufacturing back in the 90s and even then it was mostly designing stuff on a computer while robots assembled the thing.
Their views on manufacturing come from hair metal music videos and gay porn
That slave owning southern drawling is ready to get himself a new bunch of slaves for his old timey “manufacturing” plant. Bring back sweatshops!
Every one of our assemblers has a computer on their bench. The work instructions are electronic documents, as are the time entry tables that track not only minutes worked but QA, part numbers and assembly steps. Calibration is done with computers as are final verification. Stock tracking is digital.
Any guesses on whether or not these guys think about the gender breakdown of who works in manufacturing labor worldwide? The iphones theyre so excited to assemble?
i'd say they effectively dont believe in china as a nation of living people among other things so that's a bit like asking them the scent of a rectangle or something
Modern Times (2024)
They dumb fuck rich guys who don't have to things so have zero clue on how things again.
I've said this before but I think these people genuinely believe that you make a Switch by dumping out a burlap sack labeled "parts" on a conveyor belt and having people hit it with hammers until it's a Switch
It’s the same way how these idiots valorise mining or other such jobs for “real men” 🙄 It’s not quite about economics but yet another aspect of the culture wars
And even then, they're imagining burly laborers with pickaxes rather than engineers.
He’s a dumbass
And what would be the sale price of the widgets produced in those high-paying manufacturing jobs?
And they want the people to work until later in life, reduce healthcare for their bodies that will break down sooner… yeah.
Also, this guy was paid millions to coach football. Not sure how up to speed he is on reality.
football coaching uses computers
Those are iPads...totally different things... /s
Also, it’s their policies that led us here so ?!?!
Mike Johnson insulting people who played Halo was one of the classic moments because it was not only such a clearly out of touch reference but a huge chunk of his constituents are the kind of people who probably had fond memories of doing so.
Name something that doesn't involve computers now
Tuberville has no familiarity with anything but
they're not daydreaming of modern manufacturing. they're daydreaming of going back to the 1950s, if not further
Oh so they're going to pay people the same for manufacturing work as they do for computer work huh. Tuberville is a clown.
they picture teenagers putting screws in iphones
What tax break is Tuberville going to realize?
He's in the running for the stupidest member in Congress.
Nobody WANTS to work in a factory. They need American sweatshops once the tariffs make them stop using the overseas ones.
I used to work in thin film coating and metrology. Our company made all manner of lenses and my department changed their optical properties via adding coatings to them using an electron beam in a high vacuum chamber and testing them. Manufacturing. Cutting edge tech. 90% of my day was on a computer
In manufacturing, you don’t sit behind a computer. You stand behind a computer 😂
💯
This motherfucker looked at Soviet propaganda posters with stylized images of a of muscular man hammering things and thought that's literally what the inside of a modern factory looks like
Seriously. These guys think that the only ‘real’ jobs are Soviet poster images or Village People characters.
Remember: An Alabama Senator.
He's speaking to idiots, much like himself.
imagine if they figured out manufacturing techs have to attend meetings
Everything’s computer!
Next he will say something like we need to go back to pen and paper and stop using email
I can confirm that just about every industry is now computer centric, which is great for us in IT. I would bet that Tommy (boy, ahh say boy) Tuberville doesn't actually use a computer other than a smart phone.
As a mechanical engineer who works for a company that manufactures equipment that is used in manufacturing I rate this statement: TRUE
Its rich hearing about manufacturing and labor intensive jobs from the people with the softest hands.
They learned all about manufacturing from this documentary www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsVc...
In fairness, Tommy Tuberville has zero idea how ANYTHING works - and I truly mean ANYTHING. The man couldn’t toast a pop tart without directions.
