Long, long history here. David Mellinger, et alia, are the ones that discovered the "Jez Monster" -- a 20 Hertz hum that was interfering with submarine detections in the Cold War... the precursor to SOSUS was Jezebel -- hence, the "Jez monster".....

Turns out the "Jez monster" was the sounds of Fin whales, world-wide. Fin whales are _so_ low, their vocalizations are picked up on seismometers.... So yeah, oil company airguns are royally screwing with the sounds of Blues and Fins. Don Quixote over here, probably can not even _spell_ Fin whale.
